Tarandowah's
course designer, DR.
MARTIN HAWTREE is a third generation English
golf course architect in probably the longest serving golf
design office in the world. His grandfather, Frederick G.
Hawtree, began the family business in 1912, associating
himself with JH Taylor, 4-time British Open winner. Martin's
father, Fred W. Hawtree, joined in 1938 and took over the
firm after the war. Martin joined in 1972. Martin serves
as Co-Director and Chief Golf Architect as the firm approaches
its centenary year.
Hawtree
have been involved in over 200 new courses and 500 existing
course modifications. In recent years Martin has been consulted
on some of the major links courses in the UK and Ireland:
Lahinch, Royal Dublin, Portmarnock, and Royal Birkdale -
an Open Championship links course that all three generations
of Hawtree have worked on. Martin has worked a great deal
in Scotland; he was consulted by the R&A over alterations
at Carnoustie for the recent Open Championship; he is currently
being consulted by Muirfield, Montrose, Nairn,
Royal Aberdeen, Prestwick, and the Links Trust of St Andrews,
all
celebrated as some of the great links courses of Scotland.
Most recently, he has been retained by Donald Trump to design
and build
Trump International Golf Links Scotland on a unique piece
of links land
in Aberdeen.
